So Spencer gave his backing to Biden.

The Biden campaign quickly made it clear his support and views were very much not wanted.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — President Donald Trump turned a surprise opening-day appearance at his party’s scaled-down national convention into an opportunity to question the integrity of the fall election, even as his aides promised a diverse and uplifting message once the evening program shifted back to Washington, D.C. for prime time.

Trump, who was not scheduled to deliver his keynote convention address until later in the week, nevertheless made multiple public appearances throughout the first day of the four-day convention. And while the evening programming was carefully scripted, Trump was not.

“The only way they can take this election away from us is if this is a rigged election,” Trump told hundreds of Republican delegates gathered in North Carolina, raising anew his unsupported concerns about Americans’ expected reliance on mail voting during the pandemic. Experts say mail voting has proven remarkably secure.

The GOP convention marks a crucial moment for Trump, a first-term Republican president tasked with reshaping a campaign he is losing by all accounts, at least for now.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Postmaster General Louis DeJoy told lawmakers Monday that he has warned allies of President Donald Trump that the president’s repeated attacks on mail-in ballots are “not helpful,” but denied that recent changes at the Postal Service are linked to the November elections.

DeJoy was testifying for a second day on Capitol Hill, facing tense questions from lawmakers over an uproar in mail delivery delays since he took the helm in mid-June.

“I am not engaged in sabotaging the election,” DeJoy said, adding that, like Trump, he personally plans to vote by mail.

The hearing quickly became a debate over delivery disruptions being reported nationwide. Democrats said the changes under DeJoy’s watch are causing widespread delays, but Republicans dismissed the worries as unfounded and part of a Democratic “conspiracy” against Trump.
Another day, another minion discovering the Boss is mad.

So, the RNC decided to some unprecedented things.

One was mentioned by @Eliar , the decision to have Trumpy blather on every night of the convention instead of some opening comments and a concluding speech.

More cultish is that the committee decided to not lay out any policies or proposals for the coming years, instead copy/pasting the one from four years ago and including fawning praise and total support for the Trumpenführer. Or, to quote Mike Pence, "Make 'Murica Great Again, Again" (I am working on removing my layers of macros and spellchecks so America, my eternal enemy does not appear every time I use the AM version; possibly for future writing reasons).

---

A Twitter thread to show what kind of a shitshow the RNC is like:

Babadook Biden hides under the bed
Babadook Biden wants all babies dead
Don't ask questions, don't read no book
Ba-ba-ba-dook-dook-dook

Which is about all they seem to have at the moment. "We did good stuff, don't ask us to explain what that was, so don't let Biden steal the country away from us racist rich white people or the end of days will appear or something".

You forgot about the policies of failing to built double-digits miles of wall and putting babies in cages. Or is that what "Extra Heart" is code for?

I do appreciate their efforts to show how bad Biden's 'Murica can be by showing things like riots in Trumpy's 'Murica though. Most dictatorships try to hide their problems by showing images of unrest from around the world and yell, "It could come here!", but this cult is refreshingly incompetent and stupidly unable to do anything but say that Democrats will do things that the Republicans are already doing.

You know the bullcrap that some are pushing as an alternative to things like universal education, free health care and basic necessities.

Lets abolish all those they scream, the *invisible heart* will take care of it!

Some, quite frankly, depressing news from out of the military.

The national Gallup Poll of Trump’s job performance conducted just before the political conventions found that 55 percent of Americans had a negative view of the president, against 42 percent who approved of his work. Feaver said with any poll of service members, it is important to remember that those broader public views also play a factor.
...
Even with the president’s lower popularity, the most recent poll respondents were more likely to hold a favorable view of Trump’s handling of military issues (48 percent) than an unfavorable one (46 percent).
...
Feaver said those policy disagreements “do not necessarily show that troops are beginning to think more like Democrats, but instead that they aren’t thinking like Trump Republicans.” He also cautioned that the stronger support for Biden in the poll than Trump may be more a reflection of dissatisfaction with the president than a political shift within the ranks.
Why depressing?
  • Badly skewed poll from only confirmed subscribers.
  • High average age is not representative of actual service members.
  • A 4-point lead for Biden is essentially margin-of-error levels.
  • Over 12% are considering third party, which are all defacto votes for Trumpy.
  • Trumpy is trying to goad others into starting wars so he can look good, and most are fine with his approach.
  • More than one in five are willing to step in and use force against their own citizens because of BS "rioting" and "looting".
The headline is very misleading. If this translates into votes, there will be an insignificant shift away from Cadet-General Bone Spurs. IT also shows that there are some serious causes for concern with those who are willing to follow Trumpy's tough guy image into illegal attacks on their own countrymen.

Scientific American has never endorsed a presidential candidate in its 175-year history. This year we are compelled to do so. We do not do this lightly.

The evidence and the science show that Donald Trump has badly damaged the U.S. and its people—because he rejects evidence and science. The most devastating example is his dishonest and inept response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which cost more than 190,000 Americans their lives by the middle of September. He has also attacked environmental protections, medical care, and the researchers and public science agencies that help this country prepare for its greatest challenges. That is why we urge you to vote for Joe Biden, who is offering fact-based plans to protect our health, our economy and the environment. These and other proposals he has put forth can set the country back on course for a safer, more prosperous and more equitable future.
Honestly, an endorsement like this could swing both ways considering how much of the US abhors science as an affront to their bizarro fake Christianity. Though I really doubt that there are many of those who care about what Scientific American thinks, or that they would be changing their vote.

It really does put things into perspective though. If you care about the environment, health of people, or human lives, then Biden becomes the only option. Trumpy is just a dumbfuck who is the embodiment of anti-science (science is mean because you can't just say shit without evidence).

Counter-point:

Pompeo, speaking in Philadelphia, singled out property rights and religious freedom as “foremost” principals in a speech that elsewhere complained about the “proliferation” of protections in international agreements related to human rights. “We are forced to grapple with tough choices about which rights to promote and how to think about this,” he said. “Americans have not only unalienable rights, but also positive rights granted by governments, courts and multilateral bodies. Many are worth defending in light of our founding; others aren’t.”
[...]
"The report did not produce any specific recommendations and steered clear of endorsing policy proposals. But experts who parsed it for direction noted, for example, that it referred to abortion and same-sex marriage not as rights but “divisive social and political controversies.”"

Make America Great Again!

With AK-47 and Sukhois!?

Froedian slip?
This is also something that Team Trumpy has done before. Not a simple, one-time, accident.

As in, it became an embarrassment the last election he faced:
The front-runner for the Republican Party's nomination for the 2016 U.S. presidential election has issued a campaign advertisement on assisting U.S. veterans that uses a photograph of Soviet World War II veterans.
...
In the ad, Trump says "our great veterans are being treated terribly." As he promises to "take care of our veterans…[and] wounded warriors," the video shows Soviet Red Army veterans wearing their medals and St. George victory ribbons while holding invitations to a commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

We are the Russians. You will be annexed. Your distinctive culture and technology will be dragged to gulag, drowned in vodka, then buried in semechki shells. It is really for the best, comrades.
