CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — President Donald Trump turned a surprise opening-day appearance at his party's scaled-down national convention into an opportunity to question the integrity of the fall election, even as his aides promised a diverse and uplifting message once the evening program shifted back to Washington, D.C. for prime time.
Trump, who was not scheduled to deliver his keynote convention address until later in the week, nevertheless made multiple public appearances throughout the first day of the four-day convention. And while the evening programming was carefully scripted, Trump was not.
"The only way they can take this election away from us is if this is a rigged election," Trump told hundreds of Republican delegates gathered in North Carolina, raising anew his unsupported concerns about Americans' expected reliance on mail voting during the pandemic. Experts say mail voting has proven remarkably secure.
The GOP convention marks a crucial moment for Trump, a first-term Republican president tasked with reshaping a campaign he is losing by all accounts, at least for now.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Postmaster General Louis DeJoy told lawmakers Monday that he has warned allies of President Donald Trump that the president's repeated attacks on mail-in ballots are "not helpful," but denied that recent changes at the Postal Service are linked to the November elections.
DeJoy was testifying for a second day on Capitol Hill, facing tense questions from lawmakers over an uproar in mail delivery delays since he took the helm in mid-June.
"I am not engaged in sabotaging the election," DeJoy said, adding that, like Trump, he personally plans to vote by mail.
The hearing quickly became a debate over delivery disruptions being reported nationwide. Democrats said the changes under DeJoy's watch are causing widespread delays, but Republicans dismissed the worries as unfounded and part of a Democratic "conspiracy" against Trump.
You forgot about the policies of failing to built double-digits miles of wall and putting babies in cages. Or is that what "Extra Heart" is code for?C'mon now Lerticus!
You are just jealous the US of A is taking yet another step to Meta-Meta-Neo Capitalistic Libertarian Utopia with Extra Heart of Society!
You forgot about the policies of failing to built double-digits miles of wall and putting babies in cages. Or is that what "Extra Heart" is code for?
I do appreciate their efforts to show how bad Biden's 'Murica can be by showing things like riots in Trumpy's 'Murica though. Most dictatorships try to hide their problems by showing images of unrest from around the world and yell, "It could come here!", but this cult is refreshingly incompetent and stupidly unable to do anything but say that Democrats will do things that the Republicans are already doing.
Ah, the GoFundMe healthcare system.nah I was refering to https://www.amazon.com/Invisible-Heart-Economic-Romance/dp/0262681358
You know the bullcrap that some are pushing as an alternative to things like universal education, free health care and basic necessities.
Lets abolish all those they scream, the *invisible heart* will take care of it!
The national Gallup Poll of Trump's job performance conducted just before the political conventions found that 55 percent of Americans had a negative view of the president, against 42 percent who approved of his work. Feaver said with any poll of service members, it is important to remember that those broader public views also play a factor.
...
Even with the president's lower popularity, the most recent poll respondents were more likely to hold a favorable view of Trump's handling of military issues (48 percent) than an unfavorable one (46 percent).
...
Feaver said those policy disagreements "do not necessarily show that troops are beginning to think more like Democrats, but instead that they aren't thinking like Trump Republicans." He also cautioned that the stronger support for Biden in the poll than Trump may be more a reflection of dissatisfaction with the president than a political shift within the ranks.
Scientific American has never endorsed a presidential candidate in its 175-year history. This year we are compelled to do so. We do not do this lightly.
The evidence and the science show that Donald Trump has badly damaged the U.S. and its people—because he rejects evidence and science. The most devastating example is his dishonest and inept response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which cost more than 190,000 Americans their lives by the middle of September. He has also attacked environmental protections, medical care, and the researchers and public science agencies that help this country prepare for its greatest challenges. That is why we urge you to vote for Joe Biden, who is offering fact-based plans to protect our health, our economy and the environment. These and other proposals he has put forth can set the country back on course for a safer, more prosperous and more equitable future.
Pompeo, speaking in Philadelphia, singled out property rights and religious freedom as "foremost" principals in a speech that elsewhere complained about the "proliferation" of protections in international agreements related to human rights. "We are forced to grapple with tough choices about which rights to promote and how to think about this," he said. "Americans have not only unalienable rights, but also positive rights granted by governments, courts and multilateral bodies. Many are worth defending in light of our founding; others aren't."

"The report did not produce any specific recommendations and steered clear of endorsing policy proposals. But experts who parsed it for direction noted, for example, that it referred to abortion and same-sex marriage not as rights but "divisive social and political controversies.""

The front-runner for the Republican Party's nomination for the 2016 U.S. presidential election has issued a campaign advertisement on assisting U.S. veterans that uses a photograph of Soviet World War II veterans.
...
In the ad, Trump says "our great veterans are being treated terribly." As he promises to "take care of our veterans…[and] wounded warriors," the video shows Soviet Red Army veterans wearing their medals and St. George victory ribbons while holding invitations to a commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
This is also something that Team Trumpy has done before. Not a simple, one-time, accident.
As in, it became an embarrassment the last election he faced:

Hope Hicks, one of President Donald Trump's closest aides, has tested positive for coronavirus infection, according to people familiar with the matter.
There was no indication that the president has contracted the virus, the people said. Hicks traveled with Trump aboard Air Force One to and from the presidential debate on Tuesday.
The people asked not to be identified because Hicks's infection has not been publicly announced. Messages left for Hicks were not immediately returned.
He's been tested positive. Most of the planet reacts like this:
Yo @Rufus Shinra the way 2020 is going what odds to you give it Trump catching the bug and dying just before or after election night?

A new pro-Trump super PAC ad uses stock footage from Russia and Belarus in a major ad buy that's airing in three swing states. It's the fourth time in three months that an ad promoting President Donald Trump's reelection has used footage from Russia.
America First Action last Thursday launched an ad called "Pandemic Tax" in Florida, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin as part of a $10 million ad campaign slamming Joe Biden for supporting bad trade deals and arguing that he would raise taxes on "all of us." But some of the people featured in the ad were actors in stock footage from Russia and Belarus.
...
This is the fourth time a Trump-affiliated group has used Russian footage in an ad. A digital ad last month released by a fundraising arm of the Trump campaign called on people to "support our troops" but used a stock photo of Russian-made fighter jets and Russian models dressed as soldiers.
Another Trump campaign ad also used footage of a conveyor belt with cardboard boxes saying "MADE IN THE USA" that was created by a Russian photographer and illustrator, and a pre-recorded video at the Republican National Convention used stock footage of a factory in Moscow.
