Active combat between Pakistanese and Indian forces

After a terrorist attack from a Pakistanese extremist group killed a few dozen Indian paramilitaries, India launched an air strike on that group's camp in Pakistan. Things are now escalating and one Indian MiG-21 has been confirmed shot down by Pakistan, with its pilot captured. The situation seems to be very fluid at the moment.

Fun fact is that the yesterday's airstrike involving Mirage-2k, MiG-29 and Su-30 was conducted by one of the Indian 'nuclear' squadrons.

Fuck. I can feel the Pakistanis and Indian posters back at SB forming ranks and readying themselves for a battle of words.

Heh. Good training indeed.

My position is different now that things appear to have cooled down a bit. India got shown very publically that their air force is really starting to get obsolete, no matter how successful the previous raid was. The plane demolished was of Russian make, which will lead to additional perception issues on these by the public. It's a really good environment for a nice little price reduction on an offer for several squadrons' worth of Duckies in order to be sure that the brave Indian Air Force pilots can have the best available equipment to face their evil opponents. :-D

Such mercenary thoughts, Rufus. O thought it's the Muricans that play 'moustache twirling, cigar-smoking arms merchant' these days?

Lol it's high time for the Tejas to deploy to the front lines and show the Pakistanis what real domestic aerospace engineering is!

"These days"? During the Falklands War, we helped the Argies set up their missiles while providing intel on the same missiles to the Brits. Selling tools of freedom to anyone who wants them is a hallmark of our policy.

Hmm, making Pakistanese pilots suffocate from laughter in their cockpit? A bold tactic, let's see how it works out for them.

At least the Tejas is made from modern composite materials and advance alloys, unlike the Pakistani JF-17 which is made out of Chinese knock off backyard pig iron.

Surprising? No. Depressing? Yes.

Nether of them are suicidal either
Both have radical elements in thier societies, so there is a chance of it happening. Especially if a convential war starts, one side starts winning, and the other side says "death before occupation!"

Then they become politically and economically isolated and descend even further into abject poverty, political corruption and civil war if they're lucky (irradiated wasteland if they're not)

Eh not surprising, both, Pakistan more, got radical paramilitary groups that have open recruitment and training camps in mostly out of the way, hard to control by the government regions.

Doesnt help when elements in the military are sympathetic and offer weapons and training.

Can anyone here help identify what aircraft this wreck used to be?

Internet sources has Indians claiming it to be a F-16, while my Chinese sources claims to be a MiG-21 Bison......

I've seen these pictures, and they are very dubious. No damage or effect on the surrounding terrain when a wreck supposedly crashed there. Compare this with the picture of the Indian MiG-21 that was shot down earlier:

Ground hammered, grass burned or heated, smoke all around, while on the bottom picture in your post, the huge part of the wreck is standing nicely on intact grass and soil. They smell fishy. Very fishy.

Alright, looks like things are calming down a bit.

Reuters reports they visited the site of the alleged terror camp India bombed (the one with the up to 300 casualties claimed). It is Jaba village and the only injury they can confirm is a not very serious cut above someones eye.
People in the area said Jaish-e Mohammad did have a presence, running not an active training camp but a madrassa, or religious school, about one km from where the bombs fell.

Pakistan released the captured pilot. I hope this means Pakistan will not escalate further.
Not so sure about India, they might still want their pound of blood; but let's hope the gesture can calm them down some.

I don't think it matters for the political development what the second plane that came down was (or who it belonged to).

Well this is the first time in history that two nuclear powers have attacked eachother directly. We've never been closer to nuclear annihilation then we were yesterday morning.

Anyone who tells you this isn't the single most serious situation on planet earth right now has no idea what they're talking about.

... and catch China in the blast area as well as both don't trust China... and that Pakistani nukes might become 'loose' with all the shit that it entails.

The US is seeking more information on the potential misuse of American-made F-16 fighter jets by Pakistan against India in violation of the end-user agreement, the State Department has said.

[...]

"There is a two-man rule, so to speak, for access to this equipment and restricted areas, and F-16 flights outside of Pakistan or participation in exercises and operations with third nations must be approved in advance by the United States government," the then top State Department official said, according to the transcripts of the hearing.
Lolwhat. LM is EA for fighter jets, the very reason why Egypt bought the duckies, BTW, as the US blocked the use of its F-16. For fuck's sake, if that's how they deal with their customers, it's not a surprise Pakistan goes to China to buy new jets.
