Afghanistan's Taliban Takeover

Strange, you never see the US taking refugees from the wars that they started/caused.
Is only the 'loyal vassals' that need to clean the mess.
They do, kinda sorta, but it's a long and arduous process. The Hmong tribesmen from Laos who sided with the US during Vietnam, took some 30 years to get out of refugee camps in Thailand for example. Even before that, the ones evacuated first we're in legal limbo for 15 years, until the US decided to grant them citizenship.

The ability to hide behind two oceans is great to avoid the problem.

That's the thing, I guess. It's sink or swim and make it yourself with the USA, I guess.

Local media showing pics and vids of people hangin off cranes and the Taliban minister of exterior saying that they don't care about foreign reactions.

Welp that was fast.

Not surprised. The Taliban have to play nice with the world so they promise new, softer, more mature image. At the same time they have to appease their rank and file followers so stuff like this happens.

Yeah, kinda hard purging the rank and files when they're flush with all those shiny new American hardware they looted. Certainly wouldn't want the underlings hanging you from cranes now don't they?

It's less the hardware, and more that they have been well trained and experienced in their use. Because you just won a civil war, but it'd be s bad idea to start another right now.

You already have a civil war - every new governement needs do solidyfy rule among fellow revolutionares, or in that particular case, multitude of insurgent, terrorist, indpendent and foreing supplied guerillas, ie. you have continuation of civil war ongoing without pause for almost half a century. Unless one side will dominate the political and military scene, there can be no anything resembling peace.
And stability will be introduced in form of repressions and extermination, as in every case of act of state creation.

Tell that to the Vietnamese who settled in the US.

The US is only 95% as Perfidious as Dad, and 90% as mercurial as Mom. These two traits, as Afghanistan showed, do not go together well when handling delicate matters.

The majority who had to be refugees for years before settling in the USA. Read up on the Vietnam Boat People. US only took a small fraction with them when they evacuated Saigon.

Don't get fooled with the notion that the US took the majority of Vietnamese refugees.

Duh. 95% as perfidious as Dad, remember? Who do you think I was referring to?

America doesn't need special lessons from British for double dealing. They've been doing it since John Cabot first sighted North America.
Their independence war was, after all, slavers refusing to pay taxes over the costs of the war they started themselves by genociding for fun the local tribes they were explicitely told to not genocide for fun because those had a treaty with the French. So, yeah.

Strangely you'll never see that bit anywhere in American history books or any novelizations depicting the era. Oh, they'll refer to the Indian/French War but it's always "those damned Indians went and scalped a whole lot of people and ran away to Quebec!"

When you consider American take yellow journalism as gospel you'd shudder at just what else they swept under the rug. Even worse, that only a minute number of people chose to question the narrative.

They are few very good books about indians, Especially about the Geronimo. One that I have found ad was helping translating was pretty good based on accounts of a man who actually was dealing with the problem and cataloging all activities of Geronimo in historical context. It is a wonderful tale of idiocy, delusions of grandeur, terrorism, freedom and mutual torpedoing any chances for peace. Main readon for much of it? - communication - in the steppes many times only form of communication was a messenger on horseback, most of the fatefull decisions ware taken in the absence of information and time lag.
Plus in the background of aggressive colonisation, mutual genocide, proxy US-Mexican war and unregulated black market arms smuggling.
It is beautiful book brutally braking tropes of alcoholism among indians, good white man, noble savage, going into intricaties of inter tribal vis US govenrment vis local communities politics, national security and supply chains.
