Thanks for the depressing news lol
Eh. It's just essentially a cry to get your kids vaccinated
There's actually some good news on the perennial sadness of American public health.
Copied from Sufficient Velocity.
It's a bit "early" to predict the end of this wave but we getting there. Hence as such, the July 29th update is useful.
The takeaway message seems to be so far, Omicron and the new subvariants has caused a cascade of cases and a trend upwards in hospitalisation.rates are low but because each variant has some evasion from the previous one, new vulnerable population is created. The virus burns through them before it's exhausted ,creating a constant wave of caseload in the hospitals While no extreme peak has occurred for the new variants in July, this means that the US system essentially hasn't had a break.
US death rates which had been trending downwards climbed slightly but despite new variants, has stabilised at 200-300 deaths daily. That's close to Biden "leaked" goal of 200 daily.
Barring any sudden changes until the wave exhausts itself, it's possible to argue the US succeeded in finally getting through a Covid wave without a spike in deaths, meaning Biden finally won one.
Good news for Biden heading into the midterm elections if this holds true.
The PROBLEM however remains whether the US healthcare system can sustain this new burden indefinitely.
A recent
CDC survey found that nearly half of U.S. public health workers reported symptoms of at least one mental health condition. Symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression were highest (28%), followed by suicidal thoughts (8%). These symptoms were most common among those who worked more than 60 hours a week or spent most of their time working on COVID-19 response activities. Mental health symptoms were less common in workers who were able to take time off or whose employers increased mental health resources.
Yeah that's a problem.
The Omicron wave has been a long 5 month battle , with a mild dip in between for people to catch their breath.... Let's hope this doesn't repeat itself.
