Eastern Europe News

Wat…. They literally don't have the ships the pull it off even if none of the EU nations had navies of their own. There's just too much coastline to block.

Let's assume that his statement was intended for domestic consumption, and move on...

That would be saying a lot about the perceived intellect of the domestic population by the Kremlin in this case. And why should we move on when they keep demonstrating how utterly out of their mind they are?

Remember that Scottty likes moving the goalposts and attacking strawmen. To get back to the point, Italy is a quite more advanced economy and country than Russia, and doesn't have the demographic disaster of Russia with the population shrinking wildly.

By the way, great idea to send your 20-30 be turned into meat when you ALREADY have a massive demographic problem. That'll surely solve the issue.

Hush you. The last time they did that we get Russian supermodel. Now I'm waiting for Russian elf women. That, or succubae.

Aren't you aware that they are increasingly pushing for legislation limiting women rights there? I doubt they'll be able to export these for a while.

Like I said earlier - they are cosplaying the USSR on a fraction of the budget. The USSR could have made a threat like that and been taken seriously. Modern Russia can't...but admitting that even to themselves means admitting that they are only a shadow of what the USSR was, and they really, really don't want to do that.

The "cope" isn't just about the present war, it's about them wanting to deny to themselves how far they've fallen.

It's even more sad when you see the kind of stuff popular these day in Russia: alternate history isekai where a modern Russian dude dies, reincarnates in the past and pushes Russia to the glory it always deserved.

And these are the least insane stuff out there... They have a museum dedicated to a... peculiar take on History too:

Where are Zeus and/or the bull?

Anyways - if anyone really wanted to blockade the EU, it would not require posting ships all around the coasts like that. Shipping doesn't emerge randomly from the coastline.
Just blockading the Straits of Gibraltar, the Suez Canal and the big Dutch ports would be serious enough.

The USN could probably do it. The Russian Navy maaaybe - if they did it with a whole load of submarines that the West didn't know they had.
But using submarines to enforce a blockade is a scenario that goes rapidly to serious things...

The US could do it, with pretty decent losses overall. The Russian Navy would get wiped, period. Their submarines are, with literally one or two exceptions, utterly obsolete while the various European navies have spent decades honing their ASW skills - during the Cold War, the Euros were a lot more in ASW while the USN was specialised in anti-air warfare. Add to this small details like SOSUS and the aerial domination allowing land-based patrol aircraft to drop enough sonobuoys to lake sharks feel like they stumbled in an AC/DC concert and the biggest problem for the EU would be Greenpeace yelling about all the damaged nuclear reactors leaking near the coasts.

Is "making Greenpeace sad" even a negative?

So, as some of you remember, there were some large Posters in Russia, claiming that Alaska was theirs....
In case you dont remember:

And now, Russian Goverment declared in a official Document that the Sale of Alaska to the US was illegetimate...

Of course, the US State Department reacted to this:

Some Vloggers had already their fun with it.

It'd be simpler to say 'You and what army?' to such delusional claims.

This just came in.
It seems the Nawalny has died. Multiple News Outlets are reporting it.
As for me, not really surprising.

Would never happen. The EU is too valuable as a bulwark against non-Western forces. So the EU will not be successfully blockaded in any realistic scenario unless the US/EU somehow managed to piss off the entire non-western UN

looks like they found the last brave Russians, we may never see their like again

When has political bravery ever been rewarded in Russia, though?
never but there were still people who showed it in the past most of the reason they've stay above ground this long but they keep eliminating more of them every successive generation

It surprised noone, the man was stupid enough to move back to Russia in the first place. Who in their right mind, even without being a target for assassination, would want to move there, FFS?

No, what me surprised how long Navalny lived behind bars. I really thought that he would die of "natural cause" a lot sooner. Sorry for the sarcasm.
My guess was that he died shortly after he arrived in prison.

That he was going to die was not the question.....
