That, and it tells us that the Russian leadership feels the need to posture some more. It says they likely don't intend to give up soon or they wouldn't be declaring their intent for such large gains.I thought Russias frantic defense of Kherson and efforts to push for Odessa made it pretty clear that cutting Ukraine from the sea was always a prime target.
All this tells us is that this conflict will drag on for a long time or until one of the two break.
Given their irrationality trying to predict Russia's behavior is less a matter of strategic analysis than psychological analysis.
