OPEN LETTER TO OUR GOVERNORS

Updated: 8 hours ago

Mister President,

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Government,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

The hour is serious, France is in danger, several mortal dangers threaten it. We who, even in retirement, remain soldiers of France, cannot, in the current circumstances, remain indifferent to the fate of our beautiful country.

Our tricolor flags are not just a piece of cloth, they symbolize the tradition, through the ages, of those who, whatever their skin color or their faith, have served France and given their lives for it. On these flags, we find in gold letters the words "Honor and Fatherland". However, our honor today lies in the denunciation of the disintegration which strikes our homeland.

- Discrimination which, through a certain anti-racism, is displayed with a single goal: to create on our soil a malaise, even a hatred between the communities. Today some speak of racialism, indigenism and decolonial theories, but, through these terms, it is the racial war that these hateful and fanatic partisans want. They despise our country, its traditions, its culture, and want to see it dissolve by taking away its past and its history. Thus they attack, through statues, ancient military and civilian glories by analyzing words that are centuries old.

- Discrimination which, with Islamism and the suburban hordes, leads to the detachment of multiple plots of the nation to transform them into territories subject to dogmas contrary to our constitution. But each Frenchman, whatever his belief or his non-belief, is everywhere at home in France; there cannot and must not exist any city, any district where the laws of the Republic do not apply.

- Discrimination because hatred takes precedence over brotherhood during demonstrations where the power uses the police as a proxy and scapegoat in the face of French people in yellow vests expressing their despair. This while infiltrated and hooded individuals ransack businesses and threaten these same police forces. Yet the latter only apply the directives, sometimes contradictory, given by you, the rulers.

Perils are mounting, violence is increasing day by day. Who would have predicted ten years ago that a professor would one day be beheaded when he left college? However, we, servants of the Nation, who have always been ready to put our skin at the end of our engagement - as our military state demanded, cannot be passive spectators in the face of such actions.

So those who lead our country must imperatively find the courage necessary to eradicate these dangers. To do this, it is often sufficient to apply existing laws without weakness. Do not forget that, like us, a large majority of our fellow citizens are overwhelmed by your dabbling and guilty silences.

As Cardinal Mercier, Primate of Belgium, said: "When prudence is everywhere, courage is nowhere. So, Ladies and Gentlemen, enough procrastination, the hour is serious, the work is colossal; do not waste time and know that we are ready to support policies which will take into consideration the safeguard of the nation.

On the other hand, if nothing is done, laxity will continue to spread inexorably in society, ultimately causing an explosion and the intervention of our active comrades in a perilous mission of protecting our civilizational values and safeguarding of our compatriots on the national territory.

As we can see, there is no longer time to procrastinate otherwise, tomorrow the civil war will put an end to this growing chaos, and the deaths, for which you will bear the responsibility, will number in the thousands.
So... WTF is this letter doing around here? This reads some real fascist shit.

A bunch of retired officers were reeing on internet. If we had to open a thread every time it happened in the US, the forum would be flooded and you know it. So, yeah, bunch of idiots are being idiots and people outside France are the ones making the most noise about it, while here, Le Pen tried to give them some support, Mélenchon shat on them and Le Pen, and finally the military leadership recommends retiring all the reserve officers who signed this.

There you have it. Or, you know, you can keep having some fantasies.

Question, is France traditionally referred to as Fatherland or Motherland? I had thought that most latin-derived languages tended to use Motherland, while Fatherland was more Nordic/Germanic.

Romance languages are kind of curious in that there generally doesn't seem to be a natural way to say 'motherland' without also involving a word etymologically related to fathers. (Fr. mère patrie, Sp. madre patria, It. madrepatria, etc.). ... Or maybe not; I'd be interested in hearing what the connotations are from a native speaker.

Title is too vague. Can't decide if they are French people who are former generals, or generals who used to be French.

I will go with idiots who were formerly still idiots.

Motherland. And I concur on the juxtaposition of mother and a father-related word. No real connotation there, though.
I asked because the article used Fatherland and I wasn't sure if that was
1. A mistranslation of the letter
2. Correct and proper French
3. A possible Nazi dogwhistle given their support of LePen

Not even going to take the bait and click there, I know already that it's the same people who claim that the January 6th events were totes not a coup attempt by their Dear Leader.

Fun fact: the choef editor of the far-right magazine that published the second 'tribune' claimed to be from a collective of active servicemembers admitted on TV that it was actually from a single author and that he published it because 'it was making the rounds on phones and Whatsapp'. Video of the interview in French:

So, congrats, this is a rant literally like the ones published daily or hourly on The Sietch, from some random anon.

EDIT: source video, still in French. Look at 15:40 for the admission: https://rmc.bfmtv.com/mediaplayer/v...u-pays-allez-vous-la-signer-1005-1344685.html

Warning that the government's current policies may lead to civil war is quite different from threatening a coup, and it is extraordinarily unlikely, to the point of it being comic, that several dozen former French generals would be secret dog-whistling Nazis.

I forgot the login for my alt on that site so it hasn't even crossed my mind in almost a year lol
