Growing Horizons: Inner Sphere - Quest

[X] Bulwark Circinus:
After the renwed invasion of Circinus, now a member of the Confederation, it is believed that the Circinus region should receive additional defenses to prevent such a thing from happening again.
Time: 4 turns, Chance of success: 50%, Reward: Circinus gets 1d4 additional Frontier Fleets

[X] Follow the Unknowns:
With the battle of 'Far Star Station' and its destruction by the hands of the unknowns, the Scouting Force should be sent immediately to follow the unknowns back to their homebase.
Time: ? turns, Chance of Success: 65%, Reward: Some information on the Unknowns

[X] Industrial Export/Trade Delegations: Magistracy of Canopus
With the analysis of the Helm Database and the preparations of many OCP companies to build and export Inner Sphere technology, trade delegations should be sent out to look for customers for the technology in the Inner Sphere and with it improve diplomacy as well.
Time: 4 turns, Chance of success: 60%, Reward: +10 to external trade with selected world/polity, +10 to diplomacy with selected world/polity

Might as well get one of the other Periphery nations on side.

[] Diplomatic Contact: Outworlds Alliance
The OCP only has closer diplomatic contact with the Lyrans and the FedSuns and lacks any direct contact with the three other major powers of the Inner Sphere. It is time to rectify that.
Time: 4 turns, Chance of success: 70%, Reward: Embassy in selected nation

Leak FedCom Helicals and MRMs to the FWL
[x] Yes

Should the Illyrian Palatinate be inducted into the Confederation as member state?
[X] Yes

We do have Diplomatic contact with the FWL. They and Andurien were the first to be contacted after Fedcom, with a nice embassy on Atreus.
Which isn't in line with a comment on diplomatic relations action, perhaps you should update it?

And the idea is to reveal Fedcom secrets to the FWL, not to reveal anything to Hanse...

Just as a way to prop up the FWL.

Besides... Only you see a 'Cold War' brewing.
Idea was to let them destroy each other, FedCom is currently the most powerful IS faction, with the visible build-up and development being done. FWL didn't seem to do anything yet with the exactly the same database
They have been spying on us, but honestly, who isn't spying on us right now
And I don't doubt FWL is going to be a problem for us should FedCom disappear, but currently, we need them because we need their territory as a transit zone

@Lord of Sylvania we are not doing a research action this turn and trade with Lothian is potentially pointless when they might be joining us in a turn or two. Only hold back is their leader who does not want to lose power it seems.

Why i want to give them exoframes as well and the other tech and help Taurians to. We are not in a cold war persay but we dont like them much and dont trust them. Constraining them by keeping a level playing field more or less with other powers contains their strategic options which helps us. Fedcom can take the FWL and Taurians but not without exhausting themselves more and we want them to be happy with us and harder targets for FedCom in case Hanse gets more bright ideas or a noble decides to asshole it up again.

We are already having trade links with them and they are relatively close to becoming an OCP member state.

Its just that our spies have not come up with anything the FWL might be doing with their database. Yet.

You seem to be of the opinion that anyone spying on anyone else is a generally bad thing and some sort of 'act of cold war', when spying is just another part of international relations, even in this day and age. Lets face it everyone is spying on everyone else. The US is spying on their own allies for gods sake. Its normal...

Not to mention just bog standard industrial espionage...

I am surprised by the lack of comments on fact there is another multi species polity out there somewhere.

Because it is, and it is a part of the power struggle between major powers. And US spying on their own alies was a sort of scandal, no one was just able to do anything about it. And Americans certainly feel its normal when they do it, not when someone else does it.

We don't really seen any of them except they are being references in a conversation. Which could be referencing to events that led to destruction of Graveyard system planet back in Star League era. Only proof they are not refering to same aliens seems to be the fact they have our FTL system which aliens in Graveyard system shouldn't have considering their technological level ... but we don't know anything about aliens technological levels since we didn't do the archeological survey yet.

FedCom went from nothing to Elemental power armour equivalent that rivals ours in two turns after obtaining the database, for example. The same database we gave to FWL (and everyone else). Only way to fasten the process is to make to sell a ready-made product in bulk

Only because they got caught iirc and people wanted to have a self righteous fit over it.

Still there is apparently a coalition of species out there with yet another faction of humans taking it to some successor of the old Terran Hegemony which seems pretty murder happy. Analysts are probable getting drunk and knife fighting over it. Hell i am having to stop myself from speculating more on it. Once we get some real data things might get hot fast as we spread the word and this hegemony is forced to actually talk to people or possible flip their shit that their long term fuck everyone else plans are now ruined.

Because it is kinda fishy. Number station no one knew about, doing who knows what. Terran Hegemony still in hiding, waging a secret war with equally hidden polity, a Secret World (or rather Secret Galaxy) hiding in shadows of canon verse for possibly a few hundred years, without anyone noticing and without any side ever contacting the canon universe before our arrival, with the battle to show us and expositionary explanation was given to us at the right moment. There are too many questions.

It does throw everything we know and think we know into question. What the hell happened that caused this? The houses as far as we know have no idea about any of this. Was Amaris some front man or stooge for a secret war coup? We know the sldf helped a alien coalition contain the hamsters unless the robot was lying or was planted with fake memories but why is a hegemony anti alien kill them all now? Was the sldf and Camerons hegemony playing double blind games and while the houses tore each other apart in futile insanity a greater and perhaps even uglier was happening farther out in the stars? We just dont know. Yet. Once we get more data we need to sit down with the house lords and ask some hard questions with strong evidence to back it up.

Though at the moment we also need a coherent vote for the next update...

Federated Commonwealth, who still considered Terra to be part of their nation.
We need to share with them stories of counter-insurgency wars.
The war against the brotherhood was won mostly because they were fanatics - they had no allies, only people using them and people who their goals temporarily aligned with. They were a cult that existed in the shadows and were purged only with the help of Terran citizens.
The Cult was a minority - if a fanatic one. But the vote for an independent government is presumably because of the majority of people support it.
How do you sustainably rule a people whom want you gone? How do you fight a counterinsurgency war when anyone can be an insurgent, not merely the fanatical or the disturbed?

... @Eliar we already have diplo contact with FWL and i guess we could try to open trade relation with canopus but we dont have formal relations with them or a embassy.

Ok can someone explain to me why they are voting to open trade negotiations with a polity we have poor to no relations with when we have at least three other friendly polity's we could open trade with?

This actions lists are all over the place wonder how Warringer will make a coherent anything from it.

I think the thought process of the voters is "these guys are isolationist... but, we may be able to get them to become less isolationist by giving them trades".
...But they are not isolationist. The canopians are the biggest source of excellent doctors In the IS and their pleasure circuses regularly make the rounds everywhere. Well except us because their matriarchal males are stupid and can be controlled with sex thing breaks down with us because we have real aliens who are not interested and our guys can generally keep it in their pants. We really should try another diplo contact but just rolling up asking to trade is iffy at best when they got all wishy washy on us about limited contact. Really we need to be further solidifying our relations with the Taurians and make in roads with the Habitats and earth. Hell we need to put a break on our icy conditions with the FedCom before they get much worse.

Why there is a secret war? How come it remained a secret since the fall of Star League? How deep in the periphery we actually are for this to remain secret? How come secret war didn't spill over to the rest of the galaxy, how powerful Hegemony needs to be to keep it contained? How come the coalition didn't conquer the galaxy with their technological advantage, considering the robot was above what we can do? Are they even the same people as those who built the robot? What if hamsters were good guys?

As a base theory... The Camerons are fucking dicks. They discovered races far out and kept it hidden from the other lords for advantage because they and the people on Terra were always terrified of being made irrelevant and perhaps invaded by the colonies who no longer need them. Things progress either way then surprise invasion devil hamsters and that just wrecks all involved with the SLDF barely able to keep the fighting hidden from the houses who probable would have done something very stupid if they found out the truth. Perhaps even a civil war. Hamster are dealt with and problem gets under control and then a coup happens with a faction that says all xenos must die with Amaris part or a puppet of this faction. Possible with a renegade Cameron who gets Amaris to kill his family to remove threats to his power or just does not care?

While Sphere is consumed by war another hidden war is happening involving the kill faction nuking or fucking up as many aliens as they can with the other faction fighting back best they can perhaps centered on this Algareon. Amaris dies and Kerensky disgusted and exhausted leads the sldf away and i guess does not want to get involved in other war or perhaps does not know about it but i cant see how he cannot. The hidden factions hammer themselves down to barely functional as well and know getting the IS involved would end badly. The IS is happily genociding themselves over a throne none can claim and Algareon cant risk them deciding to use them up as tools in the wars or joining the kill them all side and the Hegemony, perhaps with the a surviving Cameron traitor linage, sees the houses as rebels that must be brought back in line and knows if caught would just get used up or murdered. Both sides are like the houses and pretty beat up but Algareon are slowly winning perhaps thanks to being more adaptable and more free society allowing them to advance while the Hegemony is a brutal dictatorship with heavy thought control and uses heavy robotics to try to keep a pace. And also distracted because they are also trying to fight the IS at the same time through their comstar proxies trying to keep them down and divided so if they can pull a win they can walk back into the sphere to weak to fight back or might even welcome them if it means a end to the endless blooshed and slaughter.

Why there is a secret war?
Because the Hegemony were/are/will be dicks.
How come it remained a secret since the fall of Star League?
Because
  1. Everyone was busy nuking each other
  2. A lot of planets nuked to oblivion out in the Periphery, keeping humanity contained in what they have already colonized
  3. Because the Hegemony is out there and not currently coming back for whatever reason
How deep in the periphery we actually are for this to remain secret?
About 1000 ly past the OWA, about the same distance as the Clans are from the Inner Sphere, on the other side of us.
How come secret war didn't spill over to the rest of the galaxy, how powerful Hegemony needs to be to keep it contained?
Because human space is exceedingly small compared to the rest of the galaxy and its contained itself by the Hegemony.
How come the coalition didn't conquer the galaxy with their technological advantage, considering the robot was above what we can do?
Why should everyone be out to conquer the galaxy as a base motivation? See Fermi Paradox and Isaac Arthurs YouTube series on the Fermi Paradox.
Are they even the same people as those who built the robot?
No, they are not. Wrong side of the galaxy.
What if hamsters were good guys?
No, they aren't.

So there are not same people so that means there might be two or more other groups of aliens running about.

Desire to send long range expeditions out increasing again.... There is some much in the deep dark we don't know about we can at least try to clear everything with a few hundred lightyears with basic searches.

Why should everyone be out to conquer the galaxy as a base motivation? See Fermi Paradox and Isaac Arthurs YouTube series on the Fermi Paradox.
Because Isaac Arthur works on the assumption that FTL travel is impossible and thus it takes thousands of years to get anywhere, let alone benefit from it. However, in this universe, FTL is possible, which alone works around what Isaac Arthur says about Fermi Paradox. There are also other things that go against his analysis, like a large number of habitable planets, and very easy terraforming that doesn't take thousands of years to finish. We coexist with aliens, also impossible according to him, due to too divergent biologies, we conduct trade, also impossible on interstellar distances and so on and so on...

Which means every starting location we could pick had their own civilization placed in?

Dude with how vast everything is a species or group of species has no real need to compete unless they are just trying to fill up everything everywhere with themselves. People fight because they make excuses to not because of need once they can reach the stars.

Which means every starting location we could pick had their own civilization placed in?
You know that is wrong because no one else is at those locations or we would have heard about them by now.

You know that is wrong because no one else is at those locations or we would have heard about them by now.
Our current encounter proves that there can be civilizations hidden everywhere and we won't hear about them unless we run into them by complete accident. We should have to hear about that coalition by now, but we didn't ...

Isaac Arthur argues that alien invasion is largely pointless as you would be invading something unforeseeable a thousand years in the future, as an armada would be filled with children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of children of the original army, and would lose any motivation to fight, not to mention their technology would be largely obsolete by the time they arrive thousands of years in the future, not to mention that government that dispatched them would be a long time gone and reason for invasion gone with them. That's the reality of interstellar travel without FTL. Nothing of it actually applies to the universe this takes place in.

Star League wasn't post-scarcity not even at height of their power so it doesn't fit the universe.
