How to defend your Home against Burglars ??

Ok, the reason why i´m asking, some moron tried to pry open the backdoor at our house wich leads to the garden., last night.
Reason why he couldn´t open it, the Door itself is made out of some sort of plastic wich acts like rubber when some try to pry it open.
He also couldn´t pick the lock because we use the metal part of a hanger so the key couldn´t be turned or pushed out.

I suggested my mum to call the police, but she only retorted that they couldn´t do anything.
Note: it wasn´t the first time we were victims of a burglary, some years ago, they had stolen all our gardening equipment. The Cops could only fill out a protocol, but thats it.

So, what else could i do to make sure those vermins don´t break in ??

FRONT TOWARD ENEMY + strings

Joking aside: Replace the gates/door with metal ones. Your backdoor leads to a garden so I assume you have a wall/fence around your house, so install spikes (lots of decorative options out there I think) over them to deter climbing (although completely preventing climbers would require turning your house into a literal fortress that can last a siege for 6 months). Security door layered over the normal doors and metal bars for windows are very popular anti theft options that people often forgoes fence or wall altogether, that's why they're standard in high crime areas.

hahaha, that was a good one.

ok, back to topic.
Already talked with my mum about replacing the backdoor with a metal one, but she declined, because we need every f*cking cent for a new heating system for our entire house. Cost us about 37 grand. The Backdoor is made out of a plasticky, rubbery Material. If you put force on the Material it acts like rubber. Making opening it by force very hard. So this Moron tried the cover of the door lock, but it is also made of such a strange material. I asked where we got it. According to my mother, these plastic doors were used during the 70s and 80s.

The front door is already a fortress door and when you leave the key on the inside in the lock, you cannot pick it. Also, drilling or tring to break in would result in a lot of noise wich our neighbours (and their dogs) would hear. Not to mention us.
All windows got replaced with new ones 2021. Quadruple glass and they have special type of locking mechanism that make breaking in very difficult. Also, installing Metal Bars would make look the house like a prison if you know what a mean.

I´ve ordered this afternoon some of those Wildlife Cams on Amazon. They send me a Message when something is going on and make a picture. NV and Infrared included.

Get a dog.

One of those big fuggly beasts, animal lovers insist are just misunderstood dears, but the simple truth is they are purpose bred killing machines for fighting wolf packs or eating bandits.

Big dogs, well.....
Lets just say, i don´t have problems with dogs in general, no problems with small ones, however, big breeds are a different story. Let me put it this way, i got a really healthy respect of big breeds, bordering on the fear.

Leave a porno magazine on the floor. When the burglar passes your hiding place and is distracted by the porn, subdue them with a sleeper hold. Once they're knocked out, pull out your tranquilizer gun and tranq-dart them while they're out cold on the floor to switch their status from knocked out to tranquilized, which lasts longer. Then, lift them by the ankles and shake out their pockets. Collect any ammo, weapons, or CalorieMate rations that fall out of their pockets and stow them in your inventory.

I have a alarm system myself. Someone tries to break the glass or open a door the alarm is loud enough neighbors will hear it. Had a fun false alarm when a pan fell of the wall, hanger literally broke of wall, and hit my range and the alarm decided that was glass breaking.

All the neighbours were really excited to hear the alarm... /S
Ok, kidding aside, how much did you pay for it ??

Happen in day time while I was at work. Fun 15 minute drive to get home that. Install iirc was free but I pay about $30 a month. Worth it given the number of drug houses and crazies that have sneaked into my street in the last few years.

Bend over and shit out your intestines at them like a sea cucumber, they'll be too terrified to steal anything and run like hell if they aren't paralyzed from fear.

Frustrating that isnt it?

You work your ass off to pay off the parental debts on your home and just as you think you are home free the half forgotten junkie 2nd cousin with his much abused wife and 3 snots moves next door after being chased off their last dive, and guilt trip their parents and siblings to let em crash in the unused half basement.

Heeere comes their dealer, drug addled friends, debtors on top of the constant nagging, begging and occasional theft,,,,

If your Garden area is inclosed or otherwise surrounded by a wall or fence, look at further enclosing it with a gate if it isn't already.

If you don't have some sort of light near the back door, look at getting one. Personally, I would make sure that if you get a motion light, have it set up so you can turn it on or off manually. I've had cases where a motion light above my garage door tended to go off a lot if it was really windy at night, especially in the fall when there's leaves all over the places. Made for a lot of false alarms at night.

Take a look at anything you have or keep outside that would be readily visible to anyone passing by. Use this as an excuse to maybe do some cleaning to get rid of anything you might have outside but no longer need. Also see if there is anything you might leave outside that might be better off being kept inside somewhere, if you have a place inside to store stuff without making a mess.

For all the professional burglers that break in and take everything that isn't bolted down, most thefts in my experience happen to be crimes of opportunity, the thief or thieves grab one or more highly visible items that are easy to grab and usually leave fast. Stuff you see on tv of someone breaking in and spending an hour casing the place to find the hidden safe with the family jewels and stuff isn't unheard of, but it's extremely rare.

If you've got one or more bicycles or tools or other stuff laying outside somewhere unsecured, someone could easily walk through, grab it, and you might not realize anything has been taken for hours or days afterwards.

Even if you don't call the police, maybe stop by the nearest police office and fill out a report, or maybe enquire if there have been other breakins or attempted ones in your neighborhood. Just because you got off lucky doesn't mean that your neighbors will.

Already done...
Bought a Halogen Flood Light (600 Watt) with motion detector.

Stuff like TV is stored inside.
Breaking in is difficult because we are using Shutters.
Those are lowered at the end of the day.

Bikes and stuff is stored in the garage.
Breaking in the garage is difficult because you has to rip out the metal gates.
The Gates can be only opened from inside the house. No remotes.

We needed to do it because of the insurance.
As for our neighbours, let me put it this way. Everyone of them bought a certain Sporting Equiment. That and other equipment has been bought.
One of our neighbours dogs are now roaming their gardens even at night now, if you get my drift. Best Alarm ever...

HAHAHA....

Thing is my mothers parents lived across the street from us. I spent half my time over there. Then when grandma got real bad years after grandpa died we sold the place to a... family friend? Or at least someone my dad knew. To pay for her to live in a comfortable home. It was supposed to be for the guys sister and niece but then they let other family move in and then suddenly its like people in and out all the time. Real rough types and freaks that wear only shitty pants and bath, and piss, in the front yard with a hose. While a little girl rides her bike in front of them. I cant stand to look at my grand parents house now and dont want to think what the inside looks like. Twice it has been raided by police and they pull stolen shit and tens of thousands of dollars of drug money out of there and they just go quiet a bit then start up again. The one I feel bad for is the little girl. She has to live in that and those types and i cant imagine what that must do to a child.

Other neighbor is more simply old family friends who parents family was good friends with my grandparents but over time they have degraded. The father got on dope and went crazy. Now the son is doing it and riding about with bikers stealing stuff and possible got his mother on it to after maxing all their credit cards out. This used to be a very nice street with many people blood related or good friends but time marches on
