Is the UNSC Infinity really a Warship ?

....or just a glorified and upgunned Colony Transport Ship.

Ok, as i was browsing through my bookmarks, i´ve stumbled upon a older Thread wich was posted on SB.com some years ago.
Especially the part regarding the UNSC Infinity(´s). After taking a closer look a the History of the Infinity, i´ve stumbled upon the
following fact, that the Infinity was original intended as a giant Colony Ship, wich should have transported Mankind to other Stars.

During the Human Covenant War, it was decided to turn this Colony Ship into a Warship.....

So, my question is, is the UNSC Infinity really a Warship or just a upgunned Colony Transport.

What is your Opinion ?

It is as much as a warship as any Battlestar for example?

Ideally a Generation Ship would make one hell of Superwarship no matter the configuration since the sheer size, thickness of the hull and ability to fit in so many goodies inside would render it more of a warship that any dedicated and created warship would dare to claim.

Ok, based on what you are saying a Ship like the Infinity shouldn´t have problems with equal or smaller ships, yet the Ships of the Banished managed to destroy the Infinity. A ship only half the size of the Infinity.
So, either the ship is really just a upgunned Transport (see Spirit of Fire) and got destroyed because of that, or it was the incompetence of the commanding officers (either misjudged the situation or made a fatal tactical error).

So, IMHO, a really dedicated Warship should be able to handle the situation, despit the misjudgement or error on the commanding side. In other word it should be able to withstand the punishment of the Banished Ship. But no, the Infinity didn´t.

The wiki states that the Infinity was ambushed by multiple Banished Dreadnoughts and presumably managed to destroy one during the fight?

One of Infinities was its stnd off ability as a super carrier.

Negate that and it is much less effective.

Anyway having an upgunned carrier destroyed by multiple Battleships doesnt mean that the carrier sucks it means Some people at HQ must ne sacked for sending it out alone

Infintiy stared life as a UNSC fallback position in a can and it is supposed to have Eternity to back her up literally in the 1st plan, and if Fleetcomn didn't go mad after the war broke their way they would have finished her and sent her into the black anyway just to be sure
