Moscow Mitch triggered by his nickname.

No surprise at all. The great patriot and enemy of Russia will bend right over if it means that they can scam enough votes to win.

Inconvenient truths burn deep, Mitchie, and you certainly do love the red white and blue. Just not necessarily in the same order that you claim to respect -> 🇷🇺

A few thoughts:

This is getting to him. Even more, his constant obstruction of any bill not from his personal ideological bias is getting to even his base, which means that things are really really bad if it could possibly dislodge his safe district. If I were the upcoming opposition (Dem candidate or PAC), I would hammer on this point a lot in the election. "When states do what Mitch doesn't like, he takes away their ability to choose, like [insert list of federal bills listed off rapid fire], but when it comes to protecting your elections from foreign interests he refuses to consider the bill stating "state rights". If you value your vote, protect your rights and vote out Moscow Mitch." The earworm has power, and if his support begins to fluctuate it undermines the entire party.

Second thought is that I am still hoping that RBG hangs on at least until the new year. If anything happens to her, or she chooses to retire suddenly, after then the Democrats have a massive edge. They have a massive library of Republicans last election year claiming that consideration of any SC candidate in an election year is absolutely wrong. Any attempt to push a candidate through would be a far greater theft of the SC, and would be a massive blow against the entire Republican party. (For those not in the know about the conversation, Congress controls the size of the SC, so another Trumpie candidate would both cause a revolt against such a seizure of the court, but also lessen any opposition to a bench size increase to "re-stabilize" should the Democrats win big on the down-ticket votes)

Finally... this all really means nothing because the American public who hates Trumpie in every poll since his election is composed of idiots who will vote against their own interests yet again and hand him another win since someone will yell out "derp, socialism!" or some other irrelevant bullshit.

To be effective, a mocking nickname should actually have some relation to the actual person being mocked. Otherwise, it just makes the people using it look stupid.

If it's stupid and it works, then it is not stupid.

There is just enough basis to call Mitch a traitor for not even trying to secure elections from outside interference - yes, I know that you are a denier of any Russian interference in 2016, so whatever to your opinion on that front - that they can use the moniker. It is catchy. It is actually affecting his polling numbers. He is thrown off balance and looks like a whiny baby every time he tries to defend why he doesn't deserve the name.

It is working, therefore it is certainly not stupid.

I am in fact agnostic on Russian interference in 2016 (which depends on whether or not the IRA is working for the Russian gov), but what I am not agnostic about is that the guy is not connected with Moscow.

It's not working. It's not doing anything but making people who don't like him feel good. It's an in-group signifier, like Trumper or Clintonista or Bernie Bro,

So you are Jon Snow and have no fucking clue what is actually happening in your home country. Got it.
Perhaps you can enlighten me as to a) who the hell John Snow is and b) how this damages the Trump administration and c) what purpose it serves other than to make people who don't like this guy feel good.

And don't you live in Canada?

EDIT: it really is unbelievable. Trump is probably going to win, and instead of trying to prevent that by, I dunno, attracting voters, people are spending all their time on conspiracy theories (still!) and investing nicknames with magic power.

I already mentioned all of this (not Jon Snow, but if you can't get that reference you are way too out of touch). Try reading.
  • thread is about McConnell, not Trumpie
  • despite this, a weakness for the majority leader of the senate is a bellwether for the party itself
  • https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/431002-poll-33-of-kentucky-voters-approve-of-mcconnell
  • ^ formerly extremely safe seat is actually threatened because of the pressure placed on Mitch's inaction
  • the pressure comes in part from the name Moscow Mitch sticking in people's minds (after trending on Twitter, news, etc.)
  • bitch can't handle it so explains that the accusations are totally true, but the reason he is unilaterally overriding the entire senate with his personal distaste for the bill to be considered is actually for "muh states rights"
  • all he is doing is undermining himself because nobody is listening to the last few words of the explanation, they are hearing that he is Moscow Mitch and he is weakening the elections so that Russian-sponsored attacks can succeed
If you can't figure out that actual movement in the polls is a reality, and insist that it is just a feelgood measure, then you are beyond reason. Hell, even if it is a feelgood measure and has no influence whatsoever, why the fuck should you care so much?
And don't you live in Canada?
Yet I educate myself on what is going on in the US since it affects the entire planet. You should try it some time.

Oh c'mon. People are easily propagandized, but not this easily. If they were, democracy would be a total sham. Clinton lost because "Killary" has zing!

You have to make a case for these supposed causal connections, not simply assert them.

I'm getting really tired of logic-free assertions backed up by nothing but brow-beating and emotional appeals, which seems to be 90% of discussions about politics.

Honestly. I think the annoyance stems more from the fact that his actual briberies come from his chinese in-laws. Get the right commie damnation!

Neither of them are commie and if you ask me none of them were commie russia hasnt been left since the assembly was couped by the Bolsheviks because the anarchists won.

And China? Uh idk what to call Maoism but lets just be kind and say posadism make more sense.

Hey thats rude some of us who like being someones bitch take great offense to being associated with that shitheel.

Tough titties. You are refusing all logic by your poor understanding of politics and human psychology in general. The emotional component has always been stronger than policy discussion when it comes to politics, so ignoring it is to ignore politics itself.

"Killary" did not lose the election for Clinton, but "Crooked Hillary" and the years of undermining (through constant committees that found nothing) did. The Republican party enacted a long-term strategy, and they hammered on it constantly, including with a moniker to engender doubt and mistrust.

This is not about just "Moscow Mitch", but the entire strategy against his refusal to act on important legislative matters, and the name reminds people of that reality every time it is used. If you can't figure out that the name alone is not responsible, but part of a larger strategy that is working then why do you even pretend to care about facts and connections?

Sure, they could say like you "we cannot prove that this is not 100% responsible for his polling numbers, so maybe we should just give up on this widely effective strategy altogether", but that would be stupid since attacking his political record of selective inaction as an attack on the nation is actually working and his polling numbers are dropping like a rock to the point that he is now the least favored senator in the US.

"Some guy on the internet does not see a direct connection between Mitch and the Kremlin" will not be stopping them any time soon either. At least the name is correct in principle, unlike those that the Republicans keep throwing around to win elections.

It's not working for people like you or me, who go "what's got that old dirty turtle to do with such a nice city." But the fun thing is, it's working for the turtle only because of his russophobia. I just love it :)

Considering that Moscow Mitch is triggered by the use of said nickname rather than just rolling his eyes, it says a lot about its relevance, so thanks for agreeing. ;-)
