What's bugging you?

They call you Junko. It's not your name, insofar as you can remember. When they found you, missing an arm, covered in blood and severely traumatized, you spoke no Japanese... nor any other language they could identify. You still struggle with the language, and while you share their raven hair-color, your curls and facial features are clearly those of a western girl.

Nonetheless the private-government partnership organization that discovered you, called NERV, took you in, and raised you among them. The local director, Gendo Ikari, was the one who named you Junko, just a name to put on a form. You feel no strong attachment to it.

[]Early discovery
You were discovered, covered in blood and missing an arm, at a floating research post in the north pacific after an unknown cosmological event referred to as 'the echo of second impact' which lead directly to the glassing of the Yukon. You were the only living human in the ghostly empty ship. You were wearing some sort of jumpsuit at the time, perhaps a variation of a lab-coat.
You speak Japanese, if not as well as a native, about as well as can be expected for a teenager transplanted to a new country for several years.

[]Mid discovery
You were discovered in the aftermath of the arrivals of the angels. Evangelions had not been developed yet, and the Japense self defense force, and many other militaries from allied nations called in for the emergency, were forced to fight against the mysterious beast, with little success and many casualties. After it was eventually driven off with N2 bombs, you were discovered in the rubble, covered in blood. You were wearing a jumpsuit at the time, perhaps some sort of military bullet proof Armour.
Your Japanese is reasonable, and you can speak clearly about abstract issues, but you struggle to convey complex ideas.

[]Late Discovery
You were discovered in the wake of a fight between Evas and Angels. When you were found, missing an arm and covered in blood, near the inactive core of the Angel, you were assumed to have been an EVA pilot by the locals due to your strange jumpsuit, and you were brought immediately to NERV. After they confirmed that none of their pilots were missing, they took you in.
Your Japanese is awful, you can speak about concrete issues, but you struggle with conveying abstract concepts.

Being able to speak the local language seems like a good idea. Also, you might want to mark that this is a NGE quest.

There are disadvantages to being older at the time of the 'show' though. They're not spelled out, but they exist.

Oh, no piloting Evas, right? Hmm...
Yup. If you're too old, you don't get a nice giant biorobot. I mean, that's not the be-all end-all, and I have plans if that's the route you go. But it restricts your options in the next vote, essentially.

Hmm... do we want to be the kid in the robot, the guy who yells at the kids in the robots, or the guy who broods mysteriously behind the guy who is yelling at the kids in the robots?
It is a tough decision.

Alright, the choice has been made
Early discovery
You were discovered in the wake of "The echo of second impact", before the attack of the first angels, and you were brought to NERV Japan. You remember endless, sterile rooms, and equally endless attempts to teach you Japanese. Eventually enough took that you were able to hold a basic conversation, but that didn't help much as you remember little from before your appearance on that floating research base.

They never were able to find out your original identity, nor where you came from, but they did find out several remarkable abilities you had, most noticeably your perfect kinesthetic sense, and your remarkable ability to multitask. They discovered that you could listen to audiobooks while reading the normal way, and retain full information of each book. When they pressed it, they found that you could independently give your full attention to each of your senses simultaneously... a remarkable and inhuman feat.

Gendo and Yui Ikari became something like friends, and eventually you began to babysit their small child Shinji... Though they didn't call it babysitting, rather they called it 'immersion studies in japanese'. You knew the real reason was to keep their child from interfering with their work, and it took all of your multitasking ability to keep that little lump out of trouble.

Every moment of happiness ends eventually, and you remember vividly the first angel angel attacked. You remember Yui drifting away from Gendo, throwing herself into her work to develop a weapon against those monsters. Each angel attack was harder to beat off, and more destructive than the last.

You remember the lab accident that killed Yui. Dissolving her into primordial slime within the 'Evangelion' she constructed. You remember Shinji being sent away, while Gendo threw himself into his work.

And you remember when NERV approached you with an official job offer.

[]You were to spearhead the Variable Gear Unit program, a parallel program to the Evangelions intended to fight back against the angels. Without an AT field, it would never be able to take on the strongest of angels, but you could support the pilots of the Evangelions in their fights. (Jet Alone would be another such program, run by a separate group from NERV)
[]You were selected to build and plan the city of the future, a fortress against angel attacks... Tokoyo 3.
[]You were chosen to train the first Evangelion pilot, a blue haired girl named Rei with a striking resemblance to Yui and a past more mysterious than your own.

Designing Tokoyo 3
You were charged with designing the city of the future, Tokoyo 3. A city with built in defenses against angels, including power stations for Eva's.

It's a massive and important task. You have to design the city from ground up for defense. While being attacked by angels every so often.

It's around this time that the test pilot Rei appears, who's origin is even more mysterious than yours.

[] You bond with Rei over your unfamiliarity with Japanese culture and outsider nature
[] You throw yourself into work, designing popup turrets, flip up walls, traps and trickery into the city with knowledge at the edge of your tongue from... Before.

Dang it, missed the last vote and a chance at being Rei's guardian. Ah well, let's make the term 'fortress city' mean something, shall we?

Can I also point this out:
Each angel attack was harder to beat off, and more destructive than the last.
So the third angel didn't turn up in 2014, it turned up straight away?! How do we still have a planet?
